True Review: Death At A Funeral (2010)
Death At A Funeral is a carbon copy of the Frank Oz 2007 British version that directors are hoping you have never seen before and their probably right.
The latest incarnation of this movie stars Martin Lawrence, Chris Rock, Danny Glover, Loretta Devine, Columbus Short, Kevin Heart, and a whole slue of other talented actors and actresses.
I will not lie and say that the move wasn’t funny but as a fan of the original, I’m a little disappointed. Not disappointed at the script or the selection of the new cast but just that the film was remade. Come on! Really? Why?
Will say this: I would recommend to anyone who has not seen the original British version from 2007. I generally enjoy movies that have a good original story with one or two marquee actors/actresses but this film is A-list top heavy. I mean these big name actors are fighting for screen time in this film. I mean, Martin, Chris, Kevin, Loretta Devine, Danny Glover? Give me some unknown actors/actresses and let me enjoy the story.
What is great about the original 2007 version is that I didn’t know who any of the actors were and that lets you really take in the story.
Bottom Line
If you have never seen the original then you’ll want to see this film version. The movie is a very funny and well thought out piece.
I suspect that most people who are reading this are not into British films and this one would be totally new to them. I just hope that this doesn’t start a tend of re-hashing recently released British movies for the American audience!
